CARD – Hello Fall!

Here in Michigan the temperature has dipped down into the upper 60s over the last few days, and gosh darn it … it’s got me thinking of fall. Don’t get me wrong, I love fall, but I definitely do NOT want to say goodbye to summer just yet. Thankfully, the weatherman says it should be in the upper 70s today, so there’s no need to panic!

So I guess while I’m still thinking about fall, I might as well share today’s card. This little project was actually the predecessor to yesterday’s post. It was created a couple of weeks ago, when I was inspired by all of the wonderful new Fall products to be released in the upcoming Holiday Catalog (available September 1st). I had just discovered a technique called Acrylic Block Stamping, and thought I might give it a try. I honestly didn’t think such a quick and simple technique could possibly give such fantastic results. I was stunned!

I didn’t share my card at the time, because I was reluctant to post a project constructed with retired product. BUT, yesterday’s post generated a LOT of attention, comments, and questions of “how’d she do that?” … and I really feel that the retired product is easily substituted (the substitution, not the retired product, will be included in the supplies list at the end of this post).

So without further ado, let’s take a look at the card in question … detailed instructions can be found below.

I don’t have pictures of the actual process (because I honestly thought I was the last person to discover this technique), but feel free to visit the Something About Stamping blog … which is where I first found the instructions myself.

  1. Start with a tent-fold A2 card base of Blackberry Bliss, and emboss the front with the new Brick Wall Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  2. Determine which size Clear Block will work best for your project (Size “D” was used in this example), and trim a piece of Whisper White card stock approximately 1″ larger in both height and width.
  3. Using a variety of Stampin’ Write markers, scribble directly onto your Clear Block. I don’t remember the exact combination here, but there were probably at least six different colors in this sample. Don’t spend too much time on this step, fussiness won’t improve results. Just remember if you want a clean straight edge, make sure your scribbles go right up to the edges of the block.
  4. Lightly mist the scribbled block with water from a Stampin’ Spritzer – I only needed about two full sprays from 6″-8″ above.
  5. Press the Acrylic Block directly into the center of your Whisper White panel. Be patient! It will only take a few extra seconds for the excess water to absorb into the paper, and you can actual see it happening through the block. Wait until the paper has “released” itself from the block before lifting it away.
  6. Trim the edges of the panel to frame your background, if desired/necessary. (I like to trim my panel to its final size after stamping to obtain a nice even white frame around the background.)
  7. Allow the panel to dry completely (either naturally, or speed up drying time with a Heat Tool) before stamping the World of Dreams image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  8. Heat emboss the “Hello Fall” sentiment in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. (Don’t forget to use an Embossing Buddy to avoid static!)
  9. Add a slightly larger layer of Gold Foil Sheet behind your stamped panel with Snail Adhesive.
  10. Add another slightly larger layer of Everyday Chic DSP behind the Gold Foil layer … turning at a slight angle before adhering with Snail Adhesive.
  11. Pop up the entire piece onto the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I really hope you enjoy this technique as much as I have!

CARD – Happily Ever After

Wedding season is coming, are you ready? Not me! I do have a couple of upcoming occasions, but I’ve got to admit that I’m not very prepared. When I peeked in my card stash recently, my heart sank … either get to work, or head to the store (never!). Here’s a cute one that I came up with. Unfortunately, the pictures do NOT do this card justice. It is super sparkly/shimmery, but I just couldn’t get the camera to capture it properly.

Stamp Day Designs, Project (340)

Stamp Day Designs, Project (343)

I started with an A2 card base of Shimmery White card stock. I heat embossed the leaves image from World of Dreams twice with Iridescent Ice Stampin’ Emboss Powder, pointing the image into opposite corners.

Next, I heat embossed the “Happily Ever After” sentiment from Big News (retiring soon!) in Iridescent Ice again. I used a smaller piece of Shimmery White card stock and trimmed around the image to create a small panel. I backed this panel with a slightly larger piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock and stapled a some strips of Wisteria Wonder Ruffled Ribbon (retired) at the left and right. This entire piece was popped up on some Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Finally, I fussed around with some of the little flower stamps/punches in Wisteria Wonder and came up with a grouping that I liked before sticking them down with Glue Dots in opposite corners and embellishing with rhinestones, pearls and a few sequins (the rhinestones were colored with the Wisteria Wonder Blendabilities markers, which have recently been discontinued).

CARD – World of Dreams Sympathy

Here’s another one I made a while back. I saw this beautiful card on Pinterest by Tammy Hair, and I knew I could duplicate the look with supplies I had on hand. It’s really difficult to photograph, but there is a layer of vellum under the black panel, which gives it a little touch of softness. The flowers are clear heat embossed with an image from the World of Dreams set, and the sentiment came from last year’s Simply Sketched hostess set. With a couple of quick and easy changes (sentiment and/or color scheme), this card would work beautifully for just about any occasion!

Instructions:

  1. Start with an 11″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Whisper White card stock. Score and fold at 5-1/2″ to create an A2 card base.
  2. Cut a 3-3/4″ x 5″ panel of vellum card stock, center and adhere to the card front (make sure you stay at least 1/4″ clear of the edges so the adhesive doesn’t show through!).
  3. Cut a small piece of Basic Black card stock to fit your chosen sentiment. Use the Embossing Buddy, and stamp your sentiment with Versamark ink. Heat emboss with clear Stampin’ Emboss powder and set with the heat tool. Use the 1/4″ or 1/2″ circle punch to create ticket corners (depending on the finished size of your sentiment panel).
  4. Cut a 3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″ panel of Basic Black card stock. Rub an embossing buddy over the front and stamp the flower with Versamark ink twice, rotating 180° and leaving space in the middle for your sentiment panel. Heat emboss with clear Stampin’ Emboss powder and the heat tool.
  5. Adhere the sentiment between the flower images, using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Then center and adhere the entire Basic Black panel to the vellum panel.

CARD – Lacy World of Dreams

I might have mentioned before that I own an eCutter … well this card was 100% inspired by a free cutting file offered over at SVGCuts.com. As soon as I saw this gorgeous lace frame, my vision was completely clear. I had just received my newest shipment of stamping goodies, and the “World of Dreams” set contained the perfect stamp image to be framed in the center of that oval.

I started with an A2 card base of Basic Gray card stock, and topped that with a 4″ x 5-1/4″ panel of Very Vanilla. Then I added another panel (3-3/4″ x 5″) of DSP from the Print Poetry paper stack (retired). The edges of both panels were roughed-up a bit with the Stampin’ Distress Tool.

Stamp Day Designs, World of Dreams (1)

I downloaded the lace frame from SVGCuts to my eCutter, scaled the image to fit, and cut it out of Very Vanilla card stock. I also used the eCutter’s software to create a slightly larger matching background oval out of Blushing Bride and then heat embossed the birds from the “World of Dreams” stamp set with Silver Stampin’ Emboss powder. Oops, I overheated it! But I think it turned out to be a happy mistake … as it gives it a very appropriately distressed look.

Stamp Day Designs, World of Dreams (2)

When I first assembled the stamped image behind the lace frame, I wasn’t really lovin’ it. I didn’t think the image really popped, so I went back to my eCutter software and created the Basic Gray oval frame you see at the center. Once that was in place, I was really excited! Finally it was time to place all of the little punched flowers layered out of Primrose Petals, Blushing Bride and Rich Razzleberry card stocks using three different flower punches. I finished them all off with different sized pearls, and voila!
