CARDS – Little Baby, Big News!

Oh my goodness, I feel like this week has flown by! Seems like we’ve all been go, go, go around here since Monday. I’m very much looking forward to slowing down and spending some time stamping in my studio tomorrow, and then visiting my favorite haunted house on Saturday night 🙂

Anyway, on to today’s projects. My new supervisor is expecting a bouncing baby boy any day now (how exciting!), and a few of the girls at the office organized a surprise baby shower for her this afternoon. I offered to provide a card to pass for everyone to sign, and just happened to have a couple of options in my card stash to choose from for the occasion. It was difficult to select a favorite, but after deliberating I opted to go with the first one. What do you think?

CARD – Thanks, 2 Ways

Whenever I feel like I’m in a bit of a creative slump, I find that CASEing a few cards helps to get the mojo going again. It’s no secret that the catalogs hold an abundance of creative inspiration … they *are* created by professionals after all, lol! But I get so excited when the new catalog arrives, drooling over new products and making wish lists, that I have a tendency to look right past all of those gorgeous sample pictures. I always find myself laughing when I realize that I could go through that catalog ten times a day, and still discover something new every time. (I know, I know – I seriously need to see a therapist!)

Today’s card was a CASEd from pg 16 of the 2015/2016 Annual Catalog. I knew I had all of the products required to complete the card exactly as pictured, but I thought it might be fun to challenge myself. I still had quite a bit of the recently retired Sweet Dreams DSP in my stash, and I loved that it had the same pattern both front and back, in two different colors. After a few minutes of sorting out the details in my head, I knew how I was going to proceed.

The original card featured three colors: Mint Macaroon, Basic Black and Very Vanilla. All I had to do was swap each of those colors for new colors, and place them in the same locations. First, I swapped the Basic Black and Very Vanilla from the Typeset DSP for the Lost Lagoon and Whisper White from the Sweet Dreams DSP. That left me open to choose any third color to stand in for Mint Macaron. I ended up choosing Sahara Sand, because I knew it would layer well behind the sentiment (being a lighter color), and would also go well with the color on the back side of the DSP. I really like the way these turned out … and I might just have to do similar CASE studies in the future!

CARD – Hello

Today’s card was CASEd from the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Occasions catalog. I just loved that “Smile” card in the bottom right corner of pg 23.

15 Occasions Pg 23I’m not terribly good at stitching, so I opted for a large sentiment stamp instead. I also wanted a gender neutral look, so I went with a strip of Sweet Dreams DSP for a different take on the color scheme.

It started with a Sahara Sand A2 card base, stamped randomly with Sahara Sand polka dots (which are actually the flower center from the Petal Potpourri set). Then I cut a 4-1/4″ wide piece of Whisper White on an angle to create the top panel. I made a light pencil line just above the angle and used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to stamp the sentiment in Lost Lagoon and Hello Honey. I Adhere a strip of Sweet Dreams DSP along the edge, and topped it with a Sweet Dreams designer button tied with Whisper White baker’s twine. Then I stamped the doily flowers in Versamark onto some vellum card stock and heat embossed them with White Stampin’ Emboss powder. After punching out the flowers, I placed them along the edge of the angle, adhering them to the back of the panel. To finish it off, I adhered the entire panel to the card front by using Snail at the top edge, and Stampin’ Dimensionals along the bottom.
